Listen Now: New Bon Iver

NPR is now streaming Bon Iver’s self-titled album as part of its First Listen series. Listen here.

To be sure, Bon Iver isn’t the broken hearted, cabin fevered, legendary folkstuff of For Emma, Forever Ago. But for those familiar with the title track of the 2009 EP Blood Bank, or with Justin Vernon’s role in the cheese rock outfit Gayngs, or even with Vernon and co.’s fondness for toy instruments, the sound be of a logical progression.

For all–including Vernon–this latest effort should prove an enjoyable step forward. He has said of the album, “This is the record I wanted to make my whole life. Lyrically, it’s an extension of For Emma. It’s like, what happens when you leave that place? You don’t necessarily arrive somewhere new right away.”

So run, listen, inform Bon Iver fans and non-Bon Iver fans alike, and enjoy and pre-order the album before its June 21st release.

And whatever you do, make sure to check out the last track on the album: “Beth/Rest.” Song of the year? It’s our front-runner thus far.
