Taken separately, newcomers Cults and the Menahan Street Band–the backing band of the Daptone music family, headed by soul goddess Sharon Jones, along with our beloved Charles Bradley–both bear the same message: the 60s are alive and providing supple influential fuel for some of the best music of 2011.¬†Combine the acts in the form of a Menahan Street Band “remix” of Cults’ huge single “Go Outside” though, and the product isn’t quite what one might expect. Here stands a strange, amazing hybrid–Madeline Folly’s schoolgirl vocals over some casual, artful Motown funk. And how about that bass line?

What was before a post-hibernation springtime anthem is at once deliciously languid. It’s hot outside, and the Menahan Street Band so thoughtfully delivers with a golden summertime cruiser. So kick back and drink up–this one goes down smooth every time.
